Hello to yet another new fandom!
I've seen V for Vendetta, finally. I somehow was afraid of watching it, because I already knew that there were certain similarities which a fully fledged Phan obviously can't miss. So I postponed renting that certain dvd every time because I just knew I'd be delving into yet another fandom. Especially since I saw that cute little fanart the other day. So here I am being quite intrigued about the whole idea, wanting to get background info and the special edition dvd I guess as well, since there's only a short making of on the rental copy - and THAT certainly isn't enough. During the movie I somehow found it odd that V seemed to share certain speech patterns with Agent Smith in some scenes, especially his talk about action and reaction (or something like that). Of course I knew beforehand that Hugo Weaving was behind that mask - that voice I'd recognize anywhere - but I didn't know that the script was from the Wachowski Brothers. That, of course, explains a lot in that movie. The climax fighting scene as well. It's somehow ironic when you think about it. V, of course, is yet another character that fits like a glove to the "others" already stored in my favorite-anti-hero-villainy-bad-guy-complex thingy that I certainly have and indulge in. I could definitely write several essays about all these characters that have so much in common, right along with with their various love interests, if I just weren't too lazy to do it. It's simply amazing how some things coincide. I just find it a little weird that when I enter "V for Vendetta" into Amazon, I also get the special edition/box of "Labyrinth" in the results. Um. That's a movie I would not really think of in connection to V, but maybe I missed something. And as it looks, there doesn't seem to be a special edition with more extras on it, either...or am I blind? I have one movie left now. North and South with Richard Armitage. I mistook him yet again for Gerry Butler when I saw the cover in the rental store. Naturally, he's yet another actor I find myself interested in. Does it ever stop? Guess not.Speaking of Labyrinth: Happy 60th Birthday, David Bowie! :)
